I'm big and round and covered with sharp spikes, they call them quills
I live in tree tops and the forests, even in the hills
My legs are short but they are strong, so they can dig and dig
I eat the bark in winter, but in spring I eat the twigs

My house it could be in a log, a tree or underground
And when it rains I stay in bed, I never make a sound
I like to swim my quills are hollow they can help me float
I much prefer being in the water, than being in a boat

My tail is long and I can swing it fast from side to side
I can be either yellow, black or brown I like to hide

And don't be scared, I'm not as scary as I seem to be
